My project for Villa Swagatam program aims to connect paper, fabric and colour. Collaborating with local artisans, I wish to introduce weaving and dyeing into my practice, making fibrous materials cohabit in a new harmony. During my residency at Nila House, I also plan to conduct research on the historic and cultural legacy of Jaipur, and to create a series of works informed by the local landscape. I believe this residency will allow me to cultivate collaborations that endure and evolve over time.
Erika Povilonytė is a Lithuanian visual artist based in France. Her artistic education began in her home country and later unfolded at the National School of Art and Design in Dijon, as well as at the Brera Academy in Milan.
Particularly drawn to paper, she investigates this material not merely as a medium, but as a body rich in spatial and structural potential. Her practice engages with processes of genesis and decline, with close focus on material sensitivity and transformation. Research on paper tradition in Europe and Asia led her to incorporate this knowledge into her projects, and to reconsider the conceptions of fragility.
