My practice is rooted in building botanical archives, and I look forward to immersing myself in the living traditions of French craftsmanship. Learning from the artisans, collections, and workshops of Mobilier national and Sèvres, I want to explore how textiles and ceramics carry traces of landscapes, ecological folklore, and material cultures. I see this residency as a space for sustained observation and generous exchange, where the ecological sensibilities of Indian craft meet the legacies of French decorative arts.
Kaanchi Chopra is an artist and biodesigner working with plant matter and animal fiber. Through textiles and installations, her practice restores attentiveness to local ecologies. She holds a BFA in Industrial Design and Sustainability from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and has held residencies at Jaipur Rugs and Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte. Guided by the belief that ecological repair begins with emotional reconnection, her work draws on ethnobotanical research to challenge plant blindness. Chopra has foraged, preserved, and documented 120+ plant species, and her work has been exhibited across India, the UAE, Australia, France, Spain, Italy, and the United States.
