My time at the residency is to immerse myself in the writings of Marie Clews, trying to feel what she felt and looking back at her contributions to archiving, which, for me, was her art practice. This research adds to my ongoing body of work, Weight of Me, and I hope to inherit her learnings and observations, which then become my source material to translate into visual, physical art forms.
Kirti Virmani (b. 1995) is an Indian-born visual artist based between London and India, working across photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Her interdisciplinary practice centres around ideas of rebellion within and hope. What she observes becomes the source material for what she constructs and destructs through her print and sculpture practice to navigate, and reconfigure the existing gender narratives that she finds herself in. She holds an MA in Print from the Royal College of Art (2024). Recent presentations include her solo exhibition Weight of Me (2026), supported by Plaintiff Press, alongside recognition through the Freelands Foundation Artists' Bursaries (2025) and the Portrait of Humanity prize(2023).
