At Red House, I will continue writing Drag King, The Night of the Kings, a documentary theatre project co-written with Émilie Rousset. After meeting drag kings across Europe, I want to discover how masculinity is imagined and performed in India, and how contemporary drag kings engage with the country's long history of gender fluidity. I hope to wander through queer archives, mythological figures, temples, museums, monuments, nightlife and drag performances, meeting New Delhi's queer community and gathering stories and archives that will nourish the play.
Sarah Maeght is a writer and dramaturg born in Dunkirk, in the north of France and based in Paris. She studied creative writing at Middlebury College and screenwriting at La Fémis, both of which have deeply influenced her work. After C'est où, le Nord ? and Les Imbattables, she published Veda s'en va (Albin Michel), which was selected for the Prix Vendredi. She is currently writing her fourth novel with the support of a grant from the French National Book Centre (Centre national du livre). She also writes audio fiction for teenagers and leads creative writing workshops for teenagers and adults with institutions including the Festival d'Automne à Paris and the Opéra de Lyon. She co-wrote Family Matters with theatre director Émilie Rousset, which premiered at the Avignon Festival in 2025 and is currently touring. During her residency at Red House, she will on Drag King, the Night of the kings, a documentary theatre project.
